En medio de una aguda crisis política e institucional de la ciudad, se ofreció un curso, del cual surgió una publicación con el objeto de examinar algunas problemáticas que enfrenta Quito para fortalecer las capacidades de análisis de actores de la sociedad, funcionarios y académicos para formular política pública transformadora en el Distrito Metropolitano de Quito (DMQ). El libro está estructurado en diez capítulos que recogen las temáticas de participación ciudadana, gobernanza, movilidad, vivienda, gestión de riesgos, medio ambiente, movilidad, así como gestión y uso del suelo.

3. Desarrollo urbano sostenible
La ciudad de Quito se encuentra en medio de una aguda crisis política e institucional. Por eso, FES Ecuador y la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador ofrecieron un curso de especialización y produjeron una publicación: El libro es el resultado del curso, así como de varios procesos de reflexión sobre el diagnóstico de lo que acontece en la urbe, generando propuestas para solucionar los desafíos que le aquejan, así como plantear transformaciones en lo social y lo ecológico. El curso y el libro contemplan múltiples áreas de trabajo, incluyendo la gobernanza y políticas públicas para la equidad, medio ambiente y movilidad, gestión de riesgos, vivienda justa, justicia de género. En todas las áreas se aborda un diagnóstico exhaustivo, así como propuestas de transformación. La publicación y la discusión de la misma aportaron a presentar las propuestas a candidatos y candidatas a la Alcaldía de Quito. De esta manera, se aportó al diseño de estrategias y conceptos que fomenten la transformación socialmente justa y ecológicamente sustentable en las ciudades y territorios urbanos. El curso contó con alrededor de 40 participantes que diseñaron propuestas de cambio. El libro fue ampliamente distribuido y se alcanzaron más de dos mil descargas.
